Argument: Today those few souls who were here watched this segment of a documentary about the life of Thomas Paine, the author of Common Sense. (You can leave off at about the 45-minute mark; we did. It’s best if you ignore what the guy says about Edmund Burke and the French Revolution because it’s all a bunch of BS. But it is a well-done documentary regardless.)

For Monday you are to have read Common Sense. I also expect that you may know a pertinent detail or two from this documentary, especially those pertaining to…wait for it…Common Sense.

Act I: No class because of clubs. Please read Tennessee Williams’ “Hello From Bertha” for Monday. if you have not yet taken the midterm, you must do so then.

Stephen King: Today we watched a couple of Twilight Zone episodes: “The Dummy” and “The Hitch-Hiker.” For fun…sort of.

Reading assignments for Monday:

* Tom Gordon:Pregame, and the first two “innings.”

* The Stephen King short story “Riding the Bullet.” I gave out hard copies or check last Wednesday’s blog entry for a link to a PDF copy.

7th Grade Mythology: Final drafts of the etiological myths are due next week, typed and double-spaced. You must turn in the rough draft with the final draft for full credit!

Mythology: No class today — early dismissal.
