CNF Workshop: Today: Cianfarano and Ree. Everyone did a nice job today picking up the slack for the missing folks! For Monday: your third rotation essay is due on the blog by 8:45 a.m.

If you were absent for whatever reason, I need your annotations tomorrow. Please don’t wait until Monday to give them to me.

Screenwriting Workshop: Today we workshopped Kat’s screenplay. Allison and Christy are being held over to Monday. Two new screenplays were handed out (Kozar and Sarah O.) and need to be ready to go next Wednesday.

Fiction Workshop: Read up to page 166 of “A Long Way Down.” We will workshop Megan and Andi’s stories, bring your annotated comments (Hardcopies on my desk) and post your comments to the blog. Danielle and Johnna have their stories due.

Public Speaking: Work day today. Passed back grade sheets for recitation #4. Thanks to those who turned in their speeches early. For everyone else it’s Friday. Please remember:

1. The speech is worth 50 points.
2. It MUST be typewritten.
3. It MUST be handed in at the start of class. If you haven’t printed it yet, it’s late.
4. If it’s late or not typed, there’s an automatic 50 percent deduction. That’s because we’ve had tons of time to work on these in class. If you’re not done or just barely get done, that’s your issue.

Press: The usual.

7/8 Lit Arts: Please turn in a typed copy of anything that you haven’t yet (Elevator/Place Piece or especially the revised Flash Fiction.)

7th Grade:

Survey: Fiction: Today we talked a bit about how to convey and develop character in fiction. This sheet has the notes, but please note that it should read “Action & Image Based Characterization” instead of just image:Survey Fiction 10.16.13 – Characterization Handout.

Your assignment for Monday (and your next prompt – you can write this all in your notebook) is to write two passages in which your character (from the sketches you handed in) finds him or herself. If you were in class, you have a individualized prompt. If you were absent, use the following:

Situation: Your character is waiting for the bus, at a bus stop, in the rain.
a) Write a passage in 1st person using narrator-based characterization to show/describe/tell us about how your character would react to this situation.
b) Write a passage in 3rd person using action & image-based characterization to show/describe/tell us about how your character would react to this situation.
Use the handout (linked above) as a model. Each passage should be about 1/2 page long (longer if you wish).
