IF YOU DID NOT GET A LAVA PERMISSION SLIP AND PLAN TO STAY AFTER SCHOOL NEXT WEDNESDAY, PLEASE DOWNLOAD A COPY HERE AND BRING IT BACK MONDAY!

Songwriting: Kept working on songs with partners. Keep on doing this outside class! They’re starting to take shape.

Critical Reading: Today we discussed the article from The Geography Review, in which the authors broke down the history of the panopticon into three sections. Since we got started late, you broke into groups to discuss the individual parts of the article and then we went through them as a group. There was also a quiz. If you were absent, you are expected to make it up.

There is no homework for next week.

Action Hero: No class: reading rehearsal #1.

BatCat: The usual.

8th Grade: Finished our old-school haikus and read a few aloud. Then we had our first spelling bee, based on words you suggested. Congratulations to our winner. Miss Youngk! I’ll give you a list of those words on Monday.

Survey: Fiction: Today we talked a bit more about scene and summary. You got into pairs and went through the story from earlier in the semester, Miriam, highlighting all of the summary and leaving all of the scene unmarked. The major takeaway from today should be that scene feels like real time, summary is compressed, but there is a big gray area in the middle and the important thing is to be able to explain and defend your decisions.

At the end of class you got a handout on the punctuation of dialogue. Please read through this handout and do the final page (it’s a set of sentences in which you have to place the quotation marks). There will be a quiz on Monday on punctuation. If you were absent, please check out the information on qutation marks on OWL: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/577/1/ This is not the same as the handout from class, but it covers the same material.
