Violence: Today you read “Faces” by Billy Collins and wrote a response that was due at the end of class.

Radio: A reading assignment was handed out for Tuesday – it’s called “Reading on the Air.” The guidelines for Project #2 were handed out. There is no due date set yet; I wanted to give you this information as early as possible so that you can start writing your essay and will have enough time to make it really strong.

The rest of class was spent trying out your editing programs. This is the checklist I asked you to go through: Radio 9.10.15 – Editing Practice List. If you didn’t get through all of this, feel free to work on it over the weekend, though it isn’t homework (but it is in your best interests!). You will have some time to work in class on Tuesday. Project #1 is due next Thursday – make sure you start over the weekend! Remember, it doesn’t have to be a work of genius – it just needs to exist.

Siren: You worked on your stories and if you’re a new staff member, you wrote some leads.

Style: Today we discussed Alexia. For Tuesday, please write your own piece in this style. Try to write at least three “sections” (or poems, if you prefer to think of them individually).

Middle School:

Survey: Poetry: Worked on turning abstractions into strong images, using as few words as possible. If you were absent, use this list to create one image per abstraction, and turn it in Tuesday.

Survey: Fiction: Today you took a quiz on Walter Mitty, then we talked about the story a bit. You took notes on image, abstraction, generalization, and judgment. Prompt 2 (Fiction 9.9.15 – Prompt 2) is your homework. If you were absent, you can click to view the file (a hard copy is available for you in the box by my desk for when you return). Let me know if you have any questions!
