Songwriting: We listened to some selections from Sondheim’s Pacific Overtures, and talked about the way the songs carry the plot of the show (almost without the book). Imagery, rhythm and clever wordplay carried the day in these songs — something to remember in particular if you’re in Less Mis!

Your assignment for after break is to take back your Christmas song idea, and to finish it — with three four-line verses. Remember: you don’t just want to settle for the first thing you think. In 12 lines (plus your chorus), you have to get across your concept. These will be due Jan. 8.

Critical Reading: Today we talked about Butler. In addition to that, we went over the guidelines for the final project: Critical Reading 12.18.15 – Final Paper Assignment. Let me know if you have any questions, and remember that the first deadline is the Friday after we return from break.

Less Miserables: Worked in groups to cold-read the latest versions of your scripts. We’ll be in the Black Box Monday.

BatCat: Gift exchange on Monday.

Middle School: The Bert Bertram Show returns…with the best theme music:

Survey: Combined: Literary Arts Christmas party. Thanks to everyone for making stuff or just for being there!
