Pulp: Pretty much got things settled, lineupwise. Thanks to everyone, not only for their hard work, but also their teamwork. It is much appreciated.

Project: Workday, as usual! Perpetual reminder: if you want to count this time on your logs, you need to be working on your actual project during class time.

Cultural Literacy/BatCat: Classes postponed today for our guest speaker, TV writer and producer Beth Cochran — who’s worked on such shows as House Hunters, The Dr. Phil Show, The Katie Couric Show, General Hospital, and many others. She’s a Beaver native who graduated from Pitt, and has worked as a journalist and in film, as well. She had a lot of great information to share, and reiterated a few things you’ve heard from time to time around here, about the importance of networking, being able to talk to people, and being able to work in groups.

Here are links to some of the information in her talk. For starters, her interview with Modern Family creator Christopher Lloyd. (She did lots of these interviews for the Archive of American Television.)

Here’s her interview with Friends creators David Crane and Marta Kaufman.

Here is a list TV Writing Resources of her favorite resources for TV writers.

And here’s a collection of tips, including possible internship opportunities: TV Academy Info for Lincoln Park

Finally, if you’d like to take a look at the shooting script for Modern Family, there are hard copies available in the big classroom, or check here: 0032_001

If you want to thank her for her visit, you can reach her at bethcochran@rocketmail.com

Middle School Rotation: Worked on turning your “be careful what you wish for” storyboards into bigger-scale comics/graphic novels, using guidance from Making Comics.

Survey: Combined: Our guest speaker was TV writer and producer Beth Cochran — who’s worked on such shows as House Hunters, The Dr. Phil Show, The Katie Couric Show, General Hospital, and many others.
