Wednesday, November 9

November 9, 2016

CNF Workshop: Today: reading quiz. I gave out the first packet of Round Five: Bullock, Pilch, Adamson, McDanel, Kennedy, Bowser. Comme nts and annotations for all six for Monday, please.

Screenwriting Workshop: Today we finished up the last of the photo series presentations. You got three new screenplays (Henry for Monday, and Rachel and Joanie for Wednesday), and we discussed Round 3, the details of which can be found here: screenwriting-11-9-16-round-3-guidelines. I will have a prompt available to you guys by tomorrow.

In class, we discussed the next project: an open-ended moving image assignment, put to music (Monday by Jon Brion). You can choose to do a montage (this might be the most practical choice) – try to tell a story with a series of shots. You could choose to do a silent scene or story, or you could choose to do something more experimental. In any case, you need to pair moving images to the music.

You will have Monday, November 21 and Wednesday, November 30 to work on this in class, and likely some time on December 2. These projects will all be due on Monday, December 19, and will need to be uploaded to YouTube or Vimeo and sent to me as a link (it can be a private link, so that others may not stumble upon it – same deal as the film from earlier in the year).

If you guys have questions or concerns throughout the process, let me know – I am here and happy to help! Also, since you have a month and a half to do this project, the expectations are very high! 🙂

Public Speaking: Work day. You may use a maximum of three notecards for your speech. These notecards must be turned in Monday, when we will have our final day of rehearsal and set the order for next Wednesday and Friday.

BatCat: More work for Handmade. PLEASE try to stay after school tomorrow, if possible so that we can be efficient! We’ll be making paste paper. It’s messy, fun, easy, and will probably make you happy.

Horror: Watched this excellent 2008 documentary on Lovecraft, save for the last 15 minutes or so. (Which you are free to watch on your own — and which I recommend. We covered the important stuff, though.)

Remember: for Monday, read “The Hound,” “The Tomb,” and “The Music of Erich Zann.”

Survey: Poetry: You turned in your pantoums. Your terza rimas are not due until Tuesday — deadline extension.

We briefly reviewed for the quiz tomorrow, and you began looking at the Norton anthologies to choose your poets for the notecard final. Detials here: guidelines-for-final-poetry-project-2016deadline: Dec. 15.
