December 12, 2016

CNF Workshop: Today: Adamson, Hulick + McKinzie. That finished Round 6.

On to what we’ll call the speed round: Round 7. For Wednesday: first three (Kasper, Bullock, Bowser).

Screenwriting Workshop: Today we workshopped Olivia and Henry. Please have Joanie and Rachel’s ready to go for Wednesday.

Don’t forget: your next film project is due next Monday! 🙂

Public Speaking: More recitations. Our guest today was Dr. Butterini, part of a short series where we’ll talk to people about their public speaking experiences.

Remember: Archibald MacLeish’s “Ars Poetica” is your final recitation, for next Monday.

BatCat: Today we discussed submissions. For Wednesday, please read (in FULL): Swimming, 10 Doors, Swamp, Parakeet, and Pretty. Reconnaissance has been added to the ALL READ pool; please have a solid scan (and vote) of this completed on Wednesday. If there are any other submission that we didn’t talk about today that you think are worthy of discussion/revival, bring in their names on Wednesday as well. Please make every possible effort to be in attendance!

Horror: Began watching Night of the Living Dead. We’ll finish Wednesday.

Middle School Rotation: What is a charter school? We started trying to answer that question.

Middle School L.A. Enrichment: Quiz on Catcher in the Rye, chapters 4-6. For next week: a quiz on chapters 7-9. (For Jan. 9, the next time we’ll have class after next week, quiz on chapters 10-15.)

We talked about how you feel about Holden, and some people said they appreciated his honesty (at least in his own mind). We tried an exercise where you wrote a scene with two characters: Character A was not being truthful with Character B. We read a few aloud.

For next week (and forever after): attributive verbs!! What are they, and how do they affect dialogue punctuation? Is that quizzable material? Yes.

Survey: Fiction: Today you worked in your groups, trying to reassemble A Rose for Emily in chronological order. Seems like almost everyone got it together by the end; if you didn’t finish, it’s homework for Wednesday. We will be talking about this in class on Wednesday as well.

Don’t forget that you have a story due next week! Assignment #4.
