Spongebob: Today we reviewed for the final, to be held on Thursday. Here is the study guide. Please pay particular attention to the links to the Taming of the Shrew pieces — I reserve the right to use those on the final. (Don’t worry about the back page of the “Who Was Jung” handout so much.)

We practiced our archetypal analysis by watching this episode of Johnny Bravo,

Johnny Bravo – 4x07b – T Is For Trouble from Timothy Simpkins on Vimeo</a>.

and identifying the three main archetypes this way:

Johnny: A FOOL/VILLAGE IDIOT, who evolves into a WARRIOR/AVENGER or a PLEASER/PROTECTOR (probably? It’s hard to judge what he actually becomes, but he DOES become something new.

Mr. T: A SAGE/WISE OLD MAN (the Obi-Wan reference at the end is the capper).

“Ricky” Simmons: A BAD BOSS who temporarily adopts the acrhetype of a SHAPESHIFTER/TRICKSTER to fool Johnny, but then evolves into a PLEASER/BEST FRIEND (probably; again, it’s tough to tell in 20 seconds).

Critical Reading: Today was a bit of a mixed bag. I handed back a bunch of things from earlier in the semester, all of which are in the grade book at this point. Aside from your final paper (and the extra credit for your rough draft, if you did one), your grades are complete. Quite a few of you are within striking range of bumping up a grade – it totally depends on your final paper, which is due on Thursday.

On Thursday, if all goes as planned, I’d like to do a run-down of what we would have covered, if things hadn’t gotten so messed up in the last month as far as missing classes goes. Needless to say, there is a lot that we’re not going to get to. But I’d like you to know roughly what it would have been like.

Siren: Reviewed AP Style and parts of a story/front page. Began talking about ethics.

Remember: Susan Zanke with USA Today will visit, weather permitting, on Thursday, the 12th, to train everyone on how to use the blog. Plan accordingly.

Style: Today you read and handed in your final styles. There will be some kind of in-class assignment on Thursday. Aside from that, this class is a wrap! Grades will be updated by the end of the week. If you go on and see that I’ve put in a “0” for something that you’d like to dispute, please come see me (the earlier the better).

Reading for Writers: Today we finished watching Life is Beautiful and I handed out the final assignment for the semester, which is Prompt #7 (reading-for-writers-1-10-17-prompt-7-life-is-beautiful). This is due on Thursday, and I will give you bonus points if you type it! 🙂

Survey: Poetry: Final exam. If you were absent, you make it up Thursday.
